Lieutenant Karl WeidleThe Detective Bureau includes trained professional investigators who are responsible for the researching, solving and successful prosecution of crimes.  The Detective Bureau consists of a Bureau Commander holding the rank of Lieutenant and five (5) investigators holding the rank of Sergeant, one Youth Officer, and one office assistant.  The Detective Bureau Lieutenant supervises the Sergeants assigned to the Detective Bureau, the civilian clerical staff (including Information Systems Specialist), as well as the Youth Bureau Officer, the NET Officer and the Multi-Jurisdiction Task Force Officer.

The primary duties of an investigator are:

Arrow Iconfollowing up on investigations on reported crimes
Arrow Iconevidence collection and preservation
Arrow Iconpreparing cases for court
Arrow Iconmaintaining a good working relationship with patrol officers, the courts, other investigative agencies, and the Oakland County Prosecutors Office.

In addition to their investigative duties, the Detective Bureau also processes all applicants for handgun purchase permits and fingerprint record checks. The Detective Bureau also performs inspection of all carnival games being operated in fairs and carnivals within the City of Madison Heights.
